BLUE JEANS

Did you know that jeans were invented by Jacob W. Davis in partnership with Levi Strauss in 1871.? Blue coloured denim was originally designed for cowboys and miners and haven't became popular among teenagers until 1950's. 

Girls had to wait for them until the 1960's, when they became part of the Hippie subculture. Later in the 70's and 80's they were everywhere, mostly as the part of the punk rock and heavy metal culture. Until these days, they remain popular fashion item coming in various forms: skinny, tapered, slim, straight, boot cut, low waist, high waist, distressed jeans, cigarette pants, boyfriend fit...

It's fascinating how this fashion item, iconic and eternal, covered so many different aspects of the culture, but one thing's for sure, it has defined the fashion of the youth.

Girls love to read articles which tell them which jeans cut  fits their body figure, which one is the hottest trend, which one wore Rihanna and which one should wait hidden in the closet for some other future days.

We will go through the most popular jeans cuts in the pop culture before we look up for the most popular recent jeans trends.

1. First born jeans for the boys only

2. 1950's

Usually worn by ''greasers'' , combined with the white or black T-shirt. James Dean popularized them in the movie Rebel without a cause. Women in the 50's were the first to enjoy the freedom of wearing pants. The women pants were a taboo on TV until Mary Tyler Moore was seen wearing them on the Dick Van Dyke Show. Only after that, women were more at ease wearing pants outside of the home. Here's for more information about the evolution of the women's pants through the 50's.

3. 1960's

In the 1960's, André Courrèges introduced jeans for women, leading to the era of designer jeans. 60's and the 70's were marked with the hippie fashion which defined ''Boho'' style, still as much as popular today as before. The specific model of the jeans known as Bell bottoms has it's comebacks and come & go's, just as High waist jeans, recently restored in the world of fashion.

4. 1970's

While hippie style blossomed the fashion of jeans among women, and the disco era made Flared jeans look glamorous and sexy both among men and women, the punk era has renewed the look of jeans. Jeans were combined with chains and leather, the ''ripped look'' was everything. Thanks for the Skinny jeans!

4. 1980's

Goodbye flared jeans. For now. High waist, tight fit, loose cut, straight cut, it's all there! Acid wash with high waist became particularly popular.

5. 1990's

Welcome, grunge. The jeans are seriously in the game. And they are still high waist, straight cut, loose, sometimes ripped, and cooler than ever. So are the sneakers.

6. 2000's

Low-waist mania! Denim dresses, denim skirts, denim everywhere. In the search for a more feminine and sexy look, the jeans became really tight again, Bell bottoms were back and everyone who was cool was in that game.

7. Today.

Fashion girls love to combine the rough cut of the jeans with fancy style. It proves they can go with everything: weather it is the casual look or the evening look. The thing is to find your own special pair of blue jeans and make them become part of your own personal style. Today you can go with any cut or any model as long as you know how to wear them. Jeans were created to give you confidence, so make sure you feel  both comfy and sexy when you pick a pair, otherwise they're really nothing more than another lousy pair of trousers.

Authenticity. The quality of being authentic. It is not a magic superpower or  some kind of a talent, but still, people question each others authenticity all the time. 

We have to dare to be ourselves, however frightening or strange that self may prove to be.

Authenticity comes naturally to the authentic ones. We are all born unique and, blah blah. The paradox is that even if we want to believe we are unique, we also want to blend in certain kind of groups and in our social context, we want to find people who share the same traits with us. We might be even intolerant of different kind of views and beliefs. But there is no other you, or other me. Authenticity is being natural in everything you do. The way you talk, dress, do your job, pick your hobbies, etc. But we cannot be immune to the impact other people have on us. Aware of it or not, we are selective in our tastes, the tastes and behaviour we have built through our life, weather it is mostly through our family or other people, through the media or something else. But in the sum of it all, our selection makes us authentic.

Nothing is original. Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination. Devour old films, new films, music, books, paintings, photographs, poems, dreams, random conversations, architecture, bridges, street signs, trees, clouds, bodies of water, light and shadows. Select only things to steal from that speak directly to your soul. If you do this, your work (and theft) will be authentic. Authenticity is invaluable; originality is non-existent. And don’t bother concealing your thievery - celebrate it if you feel like it. In any case, always remember what Jean-Luc Godard said: “It’s not where you take things from - it’s where you take them to.

Authenticity is a big subject when it comes to art. Every art is inspirational and inspired by something. But there is difference between copying specific personal style and being inspired by certain people or ideas. Authenticity is threatened where there's lack of imagination, creativity, the lack of self. Authenticity cannot always stay protected through formality and so it is the question of our own conscience when it comes to respecting someone's spiritual legacy. When you steal someone's persona or work, not only you devalue everything you are, you are also a thief no worse than the one who steals the money from the blind person when no one's looking. You are ripping off someone's spirit in order for you to look better. You take the result of something as your own, the result of a personal work or experience you know nothing about.

So many styles, so many artists, and still it feels sometimes it is impossible for another Freddie Mercury or Jim Morrison to pop out and shake the world. Being part of all this, it isn't strange we question ourselves and each other on a daily basics. But the thing is, we should relax. Stop taking ourselves so seriously. Let's stop analysing. Stop searching for the box to fit in. Let's just be. Cause that is the most natural thing, it is how we were born and supposed to be from the the day one. Choose your idols, sure, pick your favourite colours, change when you feel the change, feel your own aspirations and don't buy everyone's story. Concentrate on the stuff you like, give people compliments. Respect people have their own tastes. Focus on the stories you like. Never be ashamed of what you like. Everyone can click on ''like'' what everyone likes. And be honest. Authenticity is being honest with yourself and everyone or everything you have a chance to interact with. Where there's no honesty, there is the lack of soul and true interaction.

You may be able to buy fancy expensive clothes. But you can't buy the style. Or can you? Who are the names behind the coolest fashion trends? Who are the ladies we would like to steal some clothes from? Here are some of our favourite fashion stylists, and here’s why:

1. Lysa Cooper

A celebrity stylist who has worked with Rihanna, Beyonce, Kanye West and more. An artist. One of the masterminds behind the Rihanna’s image transformation. She openly commented the Olsen twins fashion line:  

The only [celebrity line] that’s any good, and I hate to say it, are our girls, the twins. But the reason that works, is because they hired designers. They [the twins] “yay” or “nay” [the concepts]. And they are the best line at ripping off other lines that I’ve ever seen.

Lysa Cooper has guts to speak her own mind. And like most stylists, she is an independent contractor. Her comments on how she parted ways with Rihanna :

That way you don’t become somebody’s slave. That way there are boundaries. And those boundaries got blurred with Rihanna.

On the other hand, she doesn't expose herself much in public and keeps her work in private. One of the rare interviews with her can be seen in Vogue.

2. Rachel Zoe

American fashion designer and a businesswoman. Best known for working with the celebrities, fashion houses, magazine editors; she began her carreer as a fashion editor and became one of the most influential people in the fashion industry, where she has been involved for nearly two decades. As a stylist, she worked with Mischa Barton, Nicole Richie, Keira Knightley, and her current clients list includes Cameron Diaz, Kate Hudson, Demi Moore, Liv Tyler, Eva Mendes, Anne Hathaway, Jennifer Lawrence, etc.

With the help of reality star Nicole Richie, she became the pioneer of the famous boho-chic look.

3.  Tara Swennen

It is enough to say that this stylist landed this year’s hot model crossover, Emily Ratajkowski of ''Gone Girl'' and ''Blurred lines'' video fame. She is responsible for Kristen Stewart’s killer red carpet looks. Tara Swennen's clients also include Mila Kunis and Heather Graham.

4. Kate Young

One of the biggest celebrity stylists at the moment. Her clients are one of the most well dressed women in Hollywood: Natalie Portman, Sienna Miller, Dakota Johnson, Rachel Weisz, and Selena Gomez, just to name a few.

5. Mary Alice Stephenson

Style and beauty expert, also a TV host and fashion journalist. She has been working with Vogue, Allure, Marie Claire and Harper’s Bazaar. She has even worked with the First Lady, Mrs. Obama. Mrs. Stephenson is the National Fashion Ambassador for the ''Make a wish'' foundation:

Granting wishes to kids that have suffered life-threatening medical conditions gives fashion a deeper meaning for me. This makes my career all the more worthwhile.
