SOLID AS A ROCK

What are men to rocks and mountains?
                                                                   Jane Austin

For a tree to become tall it must grow tough roots among the rocks.
                                                                        Friedrich Nietzsche

In matters of style, swim with the current;
in matters of principle,
stand like a rock.
                                    Thomas Jefferson

LIVE,SLEEP,PLAY...

Architecture and Nature are the two guiding principles behind Ecomo.
Its goal is not to separate these two elements but rather to synergise
them to create designs that are coherent with the environment.

Architect: Pietro Russo-Ecomo;  Location: Franschhoek , South Africa  via

The  ECOMO HOME  modular housing system is based on the square modular units that can be used as living spaces ( "LIVE", "SLEEP", "PLAY" ). The units can be easily joined together to create virtually any home desired.

The ecomo home is a compact home designed for modern, simple living in collaboration with nature...

The  ECOMO HOME  concept consists of three units:
  • Sleep
  • Play
  • Live

These three elements can be arranged in a way that perfectly meets the client’s needs or some of these elements can simply be added at a later stage. This offers freedom to simply increase the size of the house when needed.

The ECOMO HOME is based on basic sustainable, green design principles. It offers a low-maintenance, modern, well-designed green housing alternative...

  • an innovative solution to the residential market that responds and adapts to the changing modes of living related to the modern condition
  • offers an escape from the concrete jungle and enables you to enjoy the time in natural surroundings
  • affords a wider group of people to experience this kind of luxury and creates spaces that are earth and human friendly
  • responsible approach to intrinsic design aspects and the environment in which we live

Another thing that Invitation To Inspiration loves about ECOMO is THE ECO_MOBILE
  • the eco_mobile is a 40 foot container size steel frame manufactured in its entirety off site
  • clad with wooden panels and timber flooring, this unit consists of a bedroom with bathroom and a kitchenette with living space
  • various panels can be flipped down to create outdoor areas and also increase the living space towards the outside
  • the hybrid energy and the bio toilet component allow this unit to be placed anywhere
  • completely self sufficient
  • this temporary structure doesn’t require foundations- instead, footings will anchor the unit to the ground in a non invasive and easy removable manner

You can find out more about ECOMO here.

Have a nice day everyone :-D

VOODOO GIRL

 Her skin is white cloth,
and she's all sewn apart
and she has many colored pins
sticking out of her heart.

She has many different zombies
who are deeply in her trance.
She even has a zombie
who was originally from France

But she knows she has a curse on her,
a curse she cannot win.
For if someone gets
too close to her,

the pins stick farther in.

In these cruel days of bad news we seek a place where imagination runs wild and free...
The artistic world of the unique Tim Burton is where Invitation To Inspiration finds an escapist`s haven in which dreams become ideas and ideas turn into reality.
It is comforting to know that there are still special people among us whose childish hearts and ingenious minds create amazing worlds of twisted and weird, yet innocent and liberating visions.

Join us on the trip down the Burton lane!

A THOUSAND SPLENDID SUNS

Laila would remember the muted ceremony in bits and fragments. The cream- colored stripes of Rasheed`s suit. The sharp smell of his hair spray. The small shaving nick just above his Adam`s apple. The rough pads of his tobacco- stained fingers when he slid the ring on her. The pen. Its not working. The search for a new pen. The contract. The signing, his sure- handed, hers quavering. The prayers. Noticing, in the mirror, that Rasheed had trimmed his eyebrows. And, somewhere in the room, Mariam watching. The air choking with her disapproval. Laila could not bring herself to meet the older woman`s gaze.

She walked, dragging a fingernail along the wall, down the hallway, then back, down the steps, then up, her face unwashed, hair uncombed. She walked until she ran into Mariam, who shot her a cheerless glance and went back to slicing the stem off a bell pepper and trimming strips of fat from meat. A hurtful silence would fill the room, and Laila could almost see the wordless hostility radiating from Mariam like waves of heat rising from asphalt. She would retreat back to her room, sit on the bed, and watch the snow falling.

Laila examined Mariam`s drooping cheeks, the eyelids that sagged in tired folds, the deep lines that framed her mouth- she saw these things as though she too were looking at someone for the first time. And, for the first time, it was not an adversary`s face Laila saw but a face of grievances unspoken, burdens gone unprotested, a destiny submitted to and endured. If she stayed, would this be her own face, Laila wondered, twenty years from now?

Mariam did not sleep that night. She sat in bed, watched the snow falling soundlessly. Seasons had come and gone; presidents in Kabul had been inaugurated and murdered; an empire had been defeated; old wars had ended and new ones had broken out. But Mariam had hardly noticed, hardly cared. She had passed these years in a distant corner of her mind. A dry, barren field, out beyond wish and lament, beyond dream and disillusionment. There, the future did not matter. And the past held only this wisdom: that love was a damaging mistake, and its accomplice, hope, a treacherous illusion. And whenever those twin poisonous flowers began to sprout in the parched land of that field, Mariam uprooted them. She uprooted them and ditched them before they took hold.
But somehow, over these last months, Laila and Aziza- a harami like herself, as it turned out- had become extensions of her, and now, without them, the life Mariam had tolerated for so long suddenly seemed intolerable.

Mariam is never very far. She is here, in these walls they`ve repainted, in the trees they`ve planted, in the blankets that keep the children warm, in these pillows and books and pencils. She is in the children`s laughter. She is in the verses Aziza recites and in the prayers she mutters when she bows westward. But, mostly, Mariam is in Laila`s own heart, where she shines with the bursting radiance of a thousand suns.

What do we look for in the stories of other people`s lives?
An escape from our own stories? A paper soulmate who shares a common destiny with us?
It is probably a little bit of both…
A Thousand Splendid Suns is the story of two Afghani women, Mariam and Laila, recounted by a man`s pen. Moving words of Khaled Hosseini give you the insight into the woman`s perspective of the  polygamous marriage amidst the Taliban terror. The reader becomes a witness of a moving transformation from hostility to a lifetime bond between two women enslaved by the tradition and the laws of the patriarchy.

A Thousand Splendid Suns makes you painfully aware of the fact that reality goes far beyond your own  personal experience.

THE VENETIAN BEAUTY

It's not a secret that Invitation To Inspiration's second hometown is the beautiful city of Venice ( Italy ). It's the only city in the world that can be described as being truly unique. Every building, bridge or square, practically everything you see is a work of art. Living in Venice gave Invitation To Inspiration opportunity to see and get to know all those places which could never be discovered and experienced when being just a tourist.
Today's inspiration is a beautiful small palace known as the PALAZZO CONTARINI DEL BOVOLO

via
The Palazzo Contarini del Bovolo, the home of the Contarini family, was built in 1499 by GIOVANNI CANDIDespite the fact that Giovanni Candi was the original designer, it was said that GIORGIO SPAVENTO was the true designer of the famous spiral staircase located on the outside of the palace. The spiral staircase was not even built at the same time as the rest of the building, but rather it was a later addition to the building.

In Venetian dialect "bovolo" means a "snail shell" and the palace was given that name because it was said that the spiral staircase looked similar to the shell of a snail. The Palazzo Contarini del Bovolo is often referred to simply as "the snail house".

The palace takes after a few different types of architecture and design. There are Renaissance, Byzantine and Gothic styles incorporated throughout the palace, not only on the exterior of the building, but also in the interior. The building is mostly designed in the Early Renaissance style, however the staircase is considered to be more Gothic. From the exterior of the building the most noticeable are the half arches located on the outside of the stair corridor. There are also exquisite columns that follow the salient line of the staircase, which are located in the stairwell that face toward the Rio di San Luca.

According to Wikipedia and SCALA CONTARINI DEL BOVOLO- OFFICIAL WEBSITE
the stair is currently being restored and it is closed to the public. But they can't stop us to enjoy and to be inspired by this particular Venetian beauty.

P.S. It is very hard to take a good quality photo of The Contarini del Bovolo beacuse  it is located in a narrow, less traveled side street ( near the Campo Manin ) and it is surrounded by other palaces and buildings as tall as The Contarini Palace. Invitation To Inspiration was lucky enough to have a friend who lived just  across the Contarini stairs so we were able to make  few decent shots from her window :-D

SILVER THREADS...

Any man`s death diminishes me because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee...
